Haiti In My Heart, Part 2

I pride myself on being able to sniff out a “shopportunity” wherever I go, and Port-au-Prince was no exception. My first stop was the airport road atelier of local designer Pascale Theard, whose beaded sandals and belts, glove-soft leather totes and handbag charms had my name ALL over them.

Then, in the Petionville neighborhood, I did a supermarket sweep at the grocery store, checking out Pat n To’s ice cream and loading up on beautifully packaged, locally made Rebo chocolate bars, which will be stocking stuffers for some lucky folks on my Christmas gift list.

Reflecting on my quick trip, I recall the words of my guide, filmmaker Romel Jean Pierre, who told me: “Haiti will rock your world.”

And he was right. After just three days in Port-au-Prince I feel subtly but significantly changed, somehow, and eager to get back there again. Check out this video and perhaps you’ll see why.

In which I visit the atelier of Pascale Theard; go supermarket shopping and offer my thoughts on how Haiti has affected me.
