Shopping in Grand Cayman, Part II

Earlier this year I shopped my way along the palm-lined Paseo at Camana Bay, a 500-acre, multi-use development on Grand Cayman. Here’s the second and final installment of my retail adventure. (Click HERE to read Part I.) outsideday

I couldn’t resist popping the cleverly named Bedside Manor, where you can buy everything to outfit your beachfront Caymanian condo, from scented candles to bed linens and beach bags.

Just across the way is Bay Market. The gourmet grocery store (think Whole Foods, Caribbean-style) sells organic produce, a huge selection of imported comestibles, and also has an extensive salad and sandwich bar, perfect for a takeaway lunch. Cheese lover that I am, I was impressed with the array of European cheeses, many priced more reasonably than at my local Publix. Bay Market is also where I picked up that delicious pepper jelly I wrote about here.

The fate of the independent bookstore may be in question Stateside but its thriving in Grand Cayman, where Miami-based Books & Books has a branch, complete with its own café and these tempting rockers outside.

Jean Bar is a Western-themed store that sells denim in all its iterations for local “fillies” and “colts.” Belly up to the denim bar and they’ll help you choose the right boot-cut, skinny or straight-leg jeans for you, from a selection that includes DL 1961, Adriano Goldsmith and True Religion.
