BuyDay Friday: How To Keep Cool and Look Hot

When you traipse around the Caribbean as much as I do, you develop strategies for cooling down when the temp goes up: A splash of Alcolada Glacial on my neck and chest, and running ice water over my wrists and ankles are two of my favorite chill-out methods. But this week I came across something totally new. Screen Shot 2013-04-11 at 2.54.31 PM

Hot Girls Pearls are a string of bubblegum pearls filled with a non-toxic cooling gel (the same as used in ice packs). Store ‘em in the freezer for at least four hours, then, when the heat hits, sling them on your neck and get instantly cool around the collar. The chilling effect lasts for 30 to 60 minutes – plenty long enough to for you to find air-conditioned comfort or for the hot flash (the pearls were originally designed for menopausal women) to fade.

Necklaces start at $56, come in 16- to 20-inch lengths, and are available in white, blush and gunmetal.

The company also makes matching bracelets ($32) and an insulated bag with an ice pack to store your pearls on the go ($12.50).

I haven’t yet tested these for myself, but I think that whether you’re menopausal mama or still a fertile filly, this nifty necklace just might be worth a try.
